The PowerVox method
Voice Intelligence
The ability to access, express and adapt your voice with clarity, integrity and impact, especially when the stakes are high.
Voice Intelligence becomes visible in how we create meaning, communicate with integrity, speak with courage and adapt under pressure. The Voice Ladder™ shows how developed that capability is in practice. The six dimensions of the VQ Assessment reveal the underlying patterns that shape it. And the Conditions Map shows what the room around you is doing to it.

The missing intelligence
What Voice Intelligence is
Voice Intelligence is the alignment between what a leader knows, believes, expresses, and what others receive: the capacity to keep the inner signal and its outward expression true to one another, especially under consequence.
Voice Intelligence is not the ability to speak. It is the capacity to remain connected to judgement, make conscious choices under consequence, and return to voice availability after the outcome.
This is the faculty. It sits alongside IQ and EQ as a third leadership intelligence: IQ thinks, EQ understands, VQ speaks, where "speaks" means the whole circuit from noticing to landing, not merely talking.
Voice is not the starting point and not the goal in itself. Voice is where the alignment becomes audible, and therefore where it can be developed and measured.

The goal is an available voice, not a calm body.
Voice Intelligence is the faculty. Voice Quotient™ is how we measure it. Clearer, better-landed communication is what changes when the capability grows.
The method
Three parts look at the person. One looks at the room.
The capability
Voice Intelligence
The ability to access, express and adapt your voice with clarity, integrity and impact, especially when the stakes are high.
How developed it is
The Voice Ladder™
A developmental model showing how voice moves from constrained or self-protective expression towards greater clarity, confidence, range and influence.
What shapes it
The VQ Assessment
The assessment identifies the six dimensions that shape where someone tends to operate on the Voice Ladder, and what causes their voice to strengthen, contract or change under pressure.
What surrounds it
The Conditions Map
The external conditions affecting whether a voice can be used freely, effectively and consistently.
You need all four. A strong voice in a room built not to hear it is still a voice going unheard.
The Voice Ladder™
From holding back to moving the room.
A developmental model showing how voice moves from constrained or self-protective expression towards greater clarity, confidence, range and influence.
Control
“Can I say what I mean... at all?”
The voice is edited, softened or held back. Safety comes before being heard. Often strong in low-stakes rooms and quieter in the ones that matter.
Clarity
“Can I say it so people understand?”
The thinking arrives clearly and people understand it. They don't always act on it.
Influence
“Can I move the room?”
What you think, feel and say line up. People lean in, remember it and repeat it. Things move.
Most of us stand on more than one rung. The board meeting and the kitchen table can put you on different ones in the same afternoon.
The VQ Assessment
PowerVox does not treat leadership voice as presentation skill, confidence theatre or executive polish.
Voice is an integrated human system.
It involves:
- 01
Signal
What we notice, internally, relationally and systemically.
- 02
Clarity
The meaning we make from what we perceive.
- 03
Authenticity
Our relationship to truth, integrity and inner alignment.
- 04
Conviction
Our capacity to choose if, when and how to voice truth under consequence.
- 05
Presence
The quality of attention we bring.
- 06
Impact
What changes beyond the conversation.
Facets, not a ladder.
VQ is a measurable, six-facet capacity spanning receptive and expressive function. The six are facets, not a ladder: a leader does not progress through them in order. What matters is the shape across all six, read on the radar as the Wholeness pattern (HQ).
The VQ Assessment identifies the six dimensions that shape where someone tends to operate on the Voice Ladder™, and what causes their voice to strengthen, contract or change under pressure. No score is "bad". Every result tells you something true.
Take the VQ Assessment →The Conditions Map
Some rooms are built to hear you. Some aren't.
The Conditions Map reveals the external conditions affecting whether a voice can be used freely, effectively and consistently.
It gives the missing contextual layer. Without it, any model of voice risks implying that voice is mainly an individual capability. It isn't. Voice is also shaped by the environment around the person: who holds the power, what gets rewarded, and what happened to the last person who disagreed.
What it looks at
01
The destination
what the organisation is actually trying to achieve.
02
Who needs to win
what each group wants, values, fears and is rewarded for.
03
Current conditions
what exists today, from decision rights and ownership to sponsorship and trust.
04
Required conditions
what would need to be true for success to become more likely.
05
Gaps and obstacles
the open questions, assumptions and contradictions, brought onto the table instead of left under it.
06
Adoption
not "can we build it?" but "will people actually use it?"
07
Leadership conditions
are people safe to challenge? Is disagreement welcomed? Is truth valued above hierarchy?
08
Priority conditions
which of these matter most, and where to start.
Symptom and cause
| What the organisation says | What the map may reveal |
|---|---|
| “Our leaders need more confidence.” | “Speaking up carries political risk.” |
| “Our transformation is slow.” | “Nobody owns the decision.” |
| “Our new service isn't being adopted.” | “Three groups lose out if it succeeds.” |
The Conditions Map is a discovery tool, not a prescription. We say what we see, test it with you, and work out together which conditions matter most.
How it fits together
The person and the room.
The VQ Assessment tells you whether a leader's voice is available. The Conditions Map tells you whether the room will let it land.
Work on one without the other and you either train people to speak into rooms that won't hear them, or redesign rooms full of people who still can't say the thing.
The room
The Conditions Map
The person
Voice Intelligence
The finding is rarely that the people need fixing. More often, it's the room.
Honesty about the evidence
We'd rather be precise than impressive.
We are building this category in the open. What we stand behind today is a simple chain: Voice Intelligence is a definable leadership capability, it can be developed through practice, and developing it improves communication. That means what gets said, how clearly, and whether it lands and moves things.
We also believe better voice may show up further down the line, in lower burnout risk and stronger psychological safety. We hold those as hypotheses we are actively testing, not results we have proven. When the evidence arrives, we'll say so. Until then, we'll tell you where the boundary is.
Start with your own voice. Then look at the room around it.
